The pool has been closed because of Covid. Today it opened. I have been ready for two years: I packed a yellow bag with my suit, a mini-top, goggles, towel and a lock for a locker and bought 15 tickets to swim at the Community Center in South Jordan. Never went. Not once. The tickets are in my wallet.
Now I live in a building with a pool, and I was determined to go the first day. I woke up and was grabbed in the throat with the usual agoraphobia and I said, "No." Aloud. And I put on my bathing suit and went down. The water had been recently disturbed but the swimmer had gone. I had the pool to myself. Thank you, Universe. God still resides in the water.
Right now the apartment is filled with the pink light of the descending sun. It's like living in a John Constable landscape.
