I know you'll enjoy this picture of Tom blowing out his birthday candles when they are not actually lit, because who could remember matches? We brought the cake and a carload of stuff to our new apartment and broke it in with singing and eating chocolate cake and milk and then taking goofy photos of ourselves. I would show them to you, but there are way too many yellow teeth.
It was a low-key birthday, because we are in the middle of packing, but it was intensely satisfying to hang out on the floor in our new place like we have done so many times before.
Tom is more comfortable with age seventy-one than he was with being seventy. I think it looks really good on him. Kiss kiss, Birthday Boy.
Happy birthday Tom!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo. Happy Birthday, Tom!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo! Happy birthday Tom!
ReplyDeleteLove that orange sweater on him. I can't wait to give him his gift.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fabulous way to break in the new apartment!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am an Apron Stage reader who was linked to your blog! Thank you for letting me in on your hilarious stories and fresh perspectives. I find it oh so refreshing.
The last few months, I somehow came across your husband's paper "The Ophelia Syndrome" and I loved it - I was on the verge of crazy (I'm a 9th grade English teacher)that week with the lovely roller coaster ride that happens when the majority of your "grown up" days are spent in a jr. high- and his words hit the spot. I wondered, at the time, if there was any relation to you, and low and behold I linked to your blog form the Apron Stage that week and his smiley face popped up on your birthday post. Kismet, serendipity, whatever you want to call it.
Just wanted to let you know as a teen who read The Romantic Obsessions and Humiliations of Annie Sehlmeier countless times while in her own jr. high funk, I have come full circle (and am still in a jr. high ...sigh), and still find escape and wisdom in your writing:).
