It was a novelty for Elliot to keep his cards "secret." He soon established the card with the seal with the ball on his nose as his favorite and said to Sam, "Don't take this one, Dad; I want this one." When he picked the OLD MAID from my hand, his eyebrows shot up and he shouted, "I got her; I got her!" as if he'd won a prize.
I remember playing OLD MAID and not being able to keep it a secret when I got her in my hand.
And I remember liking certain cards better than others and wanting to hoard them for myself.
And I do remember the horror of having the OLD MAID at the end of the game. (Tom was OLD MAID twice). Elliot never ended with her.
Earlier that day, I had gone to Sam and Sarah's ward to see Elliot perform in the Primary Sacrament Program. His class answered the question how Jesus had helped them.
Elliot said his part with a confident voice and no twisting of the microphone. He had both grandparents there and an aunt and cousins, so there was a lot of pressure. He released
most of his nervous energy by lying under the bench during the sacrament and popping his lips.
Alive at five.
What were some things these kids said Jesus helped them with?
ReplyDeleteI can't believe Elliot is already five. But, you know, I'm in denial about the passage of time. I do realize that I couldn't get away with lying under the bench during sacrament anymore. Can you picture it? I think it would make a pretty funny sketch.
I used to fall asleep under racks of clothing when I was that age. We'd go shopping at Mervyns or JC Penny and I'd get completely bored and duck under a comfy pile of women's clothing.
Can you picture me there now? Rip Van Winkle in a floral caftan. ;)
Elliot's part: Jesus has done nice things. He has made nice choices. When I was having a bad dream in the night, I felt lost, and Jesus helped me. In the morning I opened my eyes and everything was OK.
ReplyDeleteHooray for Old Maid, that was fun. When it comes to making up rules for card games, you are simply the best.
I love that, Sarah. My nephew, Hunter, played the part of Jesus in my dream a few months ago. He came in the room and looked up at me. Then he put his hand on the back of my head. i woke up with a peaceful heart.
