Movie night--spoiler alert!

Tom and I had a bumbling conversation about which movie to see at the Broadway tonight.
I wanted to see a British film, ANOTHER YEAR. I said that, but then I made the mistake of saying, "but there are other things there as well, THE BLACK SWAN for instance He heard: "I want to see THE BLACK SWAN.

"Let's go see THE BLACK SWAN," he said. Sometimes, it's hard for two nice people to make a decision.

So we saw THE BLACK SWAN.

Let me be the first to say that I hated every second of it. If the Natalie Portman character hadn't died in the end, I would have bludgeoned her to death myself.

So then we went to ANOTHER YEAR to get the "psycho sexual" taste out of our mouths, and were thoroughly satisfied. Nothing like a good British flick about an aging happy couple surrounded by their neurotic, sad friends.

The hot dog was good too.

  2. A few weeks ago I took Used to be Mom to the movies to see True Grit. The paper hadn't updated the schedule so our choices were Meet the Little Fockers or The Black Swan. The first wasn't even a choice and if I haven't lived under a rock for the last few months, I would have know The Black Swan wasn't either. But I'm ahead of myself. There we were at the matinee watching this terrible movie without the good sense to walk out. Maybe I like psycho sexual or maybe I thought surely this can't be happening. Not sure. My dear little mother said to me "What kind of movie is this?" Thankfully her ability to thread a movie escapes her. When my sister asked her later what she didn't like about the movie she said "Well! The girl turns into a bird!" as if that explained it all.

  3. From the moment I saw the previews of Black Swan, I knew absolutely I didn't want to see it. I also knew it would attract much admiration.

Fave movies this year: TRUE GRIT and THE KING'S SPEECH.

  4. I still only see animated movies. I have seen a lot of animated swan movies. None with psycho sexual themes, however
