Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

If you want to read a deliciously, warm and witty novel, then this is it. It takes place in an English village, Edgecombe St. Mary, with a 68-year old protagonist, who corrects people when they call him "Mister" instead of "Major." It's a love story, a comedy and it has a happy ending. What a way to end March.

"Memories were like tomb paintings . . . the colors still vivid no matter how many layers of mud and sand time deposited." Worth plagiarizing.

On the DVD front, Tom and I watched a wonderful French movie, TELL NO ONE, and I watched COLLISION, a 6-part series from the comtemporary Masterpiece Theater. Perfect entertainment for a weekend.

Of course, I'm retired, so every day is a weekend.

  1. I loved Collision. Masterpiece Theater is one of the few things we fire up the actual television for instead of watching hulu on our computer. Also, we don't watch TV on Sunday...until our children are in bed and Masterpiece Theater is on. My secret is safe since you don't know my children...

  2. Try Wind at My Back and let me know what you think. I've enjoyed Cranford and Return to Cranford, Little Dorret (though the ending was so disappointing). Will look up Collision. When is the big rearranging of your bones day?

  3. Louise. So, I was told I needed to check out your blog because it is "wonderful." Yup. It is. I enjoy the mix and your fun style. (I also admire your ability to attract Chinese comments)

I am pretty new to this - thanks for showing how it's done. (Especially for a man in this woman's blogging world!)
