It was a three-moose-day. You can see two of them in the photo above.
From Brighton we drove to Midway where the trees sang praises to God in every color
including red. See it this week, folks; it won't last.
Sunday, Charles, Erica and fam came to dinner after conference. I prepared food in advance, including a raspberry jello salad, which I haven't made in years. This was a whole new cultural experience for Ann Katrin, the German exchange student, who is part of the fam this year. (Some one in Germany must eat jello once in awhile, because they have Dr. Oetker's).
The truth is I like jello every now and then topped with whipped cream. I know there is more sugar than nutritional value there but HEY.
Okay, here is the real heart stopper: on Saturday night, while Tom was at priesthood meeting, I ate three, 1, 2, 3--chocolate Dunford doughnuts.
The problem began on Friday night when I said to Tom we needed A DOUGHNUT (singular). We drove up to Smiths Market where he goes in and comes out with a dozen doughnuts, because they don't come in singles.
Tom is one of those irritating people who says things like, "I don't like too much sugar. I don't feel good when I eat it." What is he talking about?
I, on the other hand, cannot have something in the house that I'm not supposed to eat. That's why we put the M&M machine into storage. That's why I can only buy one cookie. That's why I don't keep ice cream in the house.
Oh, I forgot: I ate three doughnuts during the day as well. That's six doughnuts. A two-inch doughnut is 127 calories. Who ever heard of a two-inch doughnut? I figure these were at least 350 calories a piece. Over 2000 calories of doughnuts on Saturday. The good thing is that was all I ate. And milk.
It's Monday. I've repented. Back to fruits and vegetables.
Do you have any food you can't keep in the house?
All bad food. Like you. Sometimes I choose to eat nothing if I only have healthy options. I haven't starved to death yet, so I figure I'm ok.
ReplyDeleteI can't keep anything sweet. My rule, is that if I feel like something sweet, I have to make it. Then I weigh out the labor involved, the time commitment and whether it will be worth it.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it isn't.
Sometimes it is.
I really do try to eat healthy. But I've noticed that as the demands of motherhood increase, so has my sugar consumption. If there is something sweet in the house, I eat it. October is a "no sugar month" at our house, until Halloween of course. I think I am going through withdrawal.
ReplyDeleteI buy Halloween candy October 31st. I buy Christmas Candy December 24th and I buy Easter candy the day before. This is because I have eaten the candy I bought earlier in the month.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a spectacular weekend. I am so happy for you and your ankle, especially.
ReplyDelete"The good thing is that was all I ate." There is something very wrong with this!
I can't have doughnuts around either, specifically the chocolate cake ones with chocolate frosting or maple bars. Cookie dough -- when Sam makes it. Lemon squares, nacho cheese chips, cheetos, anything cheesecake-related, almond joy bars. I love jell-o. I feel so ashamed.
My gosh. You look so nonchalant in your photo. Moose?! REALLY?!
ReplyDeleteI was thrilled when I saw butterflies this morning.
Oh, Louise! My neighbor brought me a box of Krispy Kreme, and I promised I wouldn't eat one. I did, at least 3. Don't you love a good glazed twist? Bashas' makes a really good glazed twist. And you know what's awful? Sometimes I bring doughnuts home after I've been at the gym. The irony!

Anyway, the senior 101 video made me laugh. And I'm so glad I watched it because now I'm not being as grouchy with my kids.
I don't know how Erica teaches full-time. I'm on day 3, and I'M DEAD. T
I think it is very impressive when there is a real life moose in the background of a photo. A picture of a moose by itself is one thing...but one just casually grazing while you pose in front of a tranquil lake with changing leaves? IMPRESSIVE!
ReplyDeleteFor book club, I made a slow-cooker hot fudge peanut butter pudding cake. You heard me. I actually made two (just in case). I ate that for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday. My husband just shook his head at me.
Ben and Jerry's cannot be in my house. I will buy it "for the kids" or for "company". It never makes it that far. My favorite is Chunky Monkey. I'm a sucker for artificial banana flavor. I can't explain it.
I studied the picture of you, Tom and the moose. Each photogenic and beautiful. Even if you are full of sugar, saturated fat and white flour. Somehow I packed on 6 pounds this weekend. I'm sure the 13 hour car trip one way didn't help. Note to self: fly next time. Just think of all the money I would save on snacks. Really happy to hear you are walking. Now does this mean you will be back in New York soon?
ReplyDeletePS Jello anything was a cultural norm I couldn't ever adapt to when I joined the Church. They should give out recipes in your baptismal interview.
