Blowing the blues away

Look at those burrs on Tom's sweater!

I loved all your suggestions. They are pretty much the same things I would have suggested if I had not been in that foggy, discouraged state of mind.

Today I took care of myself. I started the day by meeting Ann for breakfast, something we planned at the beginning of the week. Breakfast with Ann is always a good idea.

Then Tom and I drove to Bear Lake. On the Idaho side is this old cabin that has been for sale for at least three years but it's part of 7.8 acre package that we can't afford. We called once to see if the owner would sell us just the cabin. Not yet. I suspect it has been bought and is being resold.

Anyway, Tom and I drive up and see this cabin once a year and go over the list of things that need to be done right away: new windows new front door, a floor and chinking. It has electricity and running water. There is no view of the lake.

In my bookmarks, I have a recipe for log cabin chinking and directions for how to accomplish it.
Tom and I like to dream in detail. We take pictures and measurements and walk around as if the thing is ours. Then we get in the car and go home.

I made enough chili to take us through the weekend and brownies to carry us through the evening.

We watched Helen Mirren in The Painted Lady on Netflix and now we're in bed. Unlike the rest of this week, unlike yesterday, today was a fine fine day.

Thank you blogger friends. Thank you, Ann. Thank you, Tom. Kisses all around.

  1. Oh, Louise. Thank YOU.

I'm so glad you and El Tom were able to take that drive and visit the cabin of your dreams. And chili and brownies? Divine!

  3. Tom's sweater looks like it lost the fight. Your outing with all its plans to fix a cabin wasn't the therapy I would have suggested (mine is more like eat the cake, eat the contents of the fridge, and then you really have something to be blue about) but all that dreaming and planning certainly sound good. I visited a 92 year old this week. He was all grumpy and out of sorts but then he showed me a photograph of this piece of land how owns and began telling me all his plans to develop it. I'm not kidding as he outlined the details, he grew happier and younger. I think dreaming more than eating is good for the soul.
