New Year's ideas for myself.

1. Learn to knit socks.

2. Learn to watercolor well enough to satisfy myself.

3. Geez, I've forgotten the rest of the list. Guess I can't run for president.

They're not resolutions, because I'm not that resolute, but the two items I do remember, I really want to do.

I'm not putting down any "shoulds." I am finished with "shoulds." "Shoulds" are bad news.

Anything you WANT to do in the new year?

  1. Probably something like win the Prinz or Newbery award. I still had ambition then. I don't anymore.

  2. Not to be all snarky, but I want to know if you ever managed to figure out how to get 3 months of food storage hidden in your apartment in a way that didn't scream OCD, anxiety-ridden mormon? If you did accomplish that goal, can you send your ideas my way?

  3. meh, I'd like to lose the 70 pounds I gained this year. they're starting to get in the way of like, putting on socks.

maybe I'd like to write more. but I have pretty low expectations for my brain these days, so I'm not going to commit to anything.

  4. Heather, my granddaughter moved into the spare bedroom and I gave my canned goods away on some food drive. I'm going to starve.

  5. If you are serious about the socks, get to know Nancy Bush up at the Black Sheep Wool Company (430 E South Temple). I taught myself to knit sock out of her _Folk Socks_ book (find on Amazon). I believe they teach classes there too. Knitting socks is fun, though I've moved to mittens and enjoy them more as I'll actually wear them.

  6. I have a friend who knits socks, etc. and she does such a great job at it that I am toying with the idea of learning it. I have the same bystander interest in cake decorating, sewing and baking bread. I haven't moved to really learn any of them, but it is nice to know that if Netflix ever gives out, I have options.

  7. Be able to run for a full hour, about 6 miles. That I truly want to do this surprises me as well.

A favorite quotation: "Stop should-ing all over her!"

  8. For sock knitting: http://www.knittinghelp.com/

They have videos that will talk you through the entire process. It's how I learned. Socks are super because everyone is impressed, and they really aren't very difficult.

  9. Heather, this is easy. Use your bathtub. It's a wonderful storage area.

  10. Tom, It sounds perfect, but wouldn't work in my house. The bathroom is the only door with a lock that works. I use the tub regularly to escape my eternal family.
