Pinning beauty all around

In ten days we are moving into a larger apartment in our building. On Easter Sunday, I asked Murgatroyd and her mother if they would like to see the new apartment, which sits empty and smells of new carpeting. When we walked in, Murgatroyd clasped her hands and said, "Oh, can I help you decorate it?" And then, "I've never been in an empty apartment before." She looked like she was about to frost a cake.

"Ah, an interior designer in the family," I said. "Perfect."

Then Erica taught us how to pin on Pinterest, and we've been sharing rooms ever since.

Today, Tom and I rented a van and collected a dresser that we had bought through KSL classifieds, a site almost as addicting as Pinterest. The dresser was heavy, and the guy we bought it from helped Tom heft it into the van.

In back of our apartment building, we two old people removed drawers hoping we could, with our combined strength, get the dresser into the building. Lo, and behold, this young man, Jason, stopped to ask if we needed help and we were smart enough to say yes. He and Tom got the dresser on the Trolley and Jason pushed it upstairs, while Tom and I carried drawers.

We sing praises to you, Jason. Even though you said you were a CPA, we know you were really one of the three Nephites.

Then we had to carry a huge baroque mirror down to the van to take out to Charles and Erica. We were fighting with the trolley and the blankets and the mirror when another young man asked if we needed help, but this time we felt like we could do it (even though Tom looked like he might faint a couple of times). Anyway, the kindnesses of young men willing to assist the gray-haired is not lost on us.

Pass it on.
