National Novel Writing Month

This is it: nanowrimo, or National Novel Writing Month.  This is the month you release the character you've been carrying around in your head for years and give her weight on a page. Type her, scribble her, dictate her, rhyme her, pencil her onto post-it notes.

You know her.  She's the one who wears only stripes, steals her grandmother's earthquake emergency cash ($10,000) and flies to NYC where everyone is a zombie except for the guys who makes hot dogs at Gray's Papaya on Broadway and 72nd.  For some reason that particular corner is a zombie free zone.

Or you could write about the teenage girl who goes with her sister and brother-in-law on their honeymoon.

Or you could write about a girl who is being stalked by another girl who dresses just like she does.

Or the girl who finds out she can fly, but she feels like such a freak.

Whatever.  Write it in November.

  1. I'm writing about the girl who has to take care of her soldier mom suffering from PTSD. It's a YA sci-fi.

  2. Wow, Louise. Those ideas just come pouring out of you. I hope you're writing one of them.

  3. I'm writing about a small-town girl who paints travel posters of far off places she's never been. When she finally gets the chance to travel somewhere, she skips Earth all together and goes to Mars.

  5. I don't know, I think we learned it from the best. That Zombie hot dog thing isn't exactly a neat little YA contemporary! :)

  6. I would love to see inside your creative mind. It must be like a Gothic house, full of rooms leading to rooms, with nooks full of descriptive phrases tucked in crannies full of most interesting repartee.

My mind? "It was a dark and stormy night..."
