I came to year three of Downton Abbey with scepticism after last year's continual melodramatic plotting, including his Lordship lusting after the maid, which was so out of character, I wanted to throw something.
Thankfully, in the third season, the storyline regained some balance. Lady Mary's wedding dress with the softly lowered waistline was exquisite as was a suit she wore with an asymmetrical lapel. Each scene was beautifully framed, and we finally got to see some wide angled views of the houses.
Shirley McClain was a grotesque figure of her former self, a mishmash of plastic surgery and normal aging, but I liked her whacky, sometimes wise, American character.
Watch out, though. Bates has a dark side. How dark? I don't think we know yet.
Anyway, I'm hooked. I've always been hooked.
Oh the spoiler. I ordered Season Three which should arrive end of January. I am hooked too. Have you seen Hell on Wheels? Justified? It was a coping mechanism. Cozy pjs, lots of ice cream and non-stop movies. I'm back.
ReplyDelete1) I'm obsessed with downton abbey.
ReplyDelete2) I'm convinced the head of the NRA is Tom's evil twin. Google Wayne LaPierre.
I love Downton Abbey. Any series which has kept my attention for three seasons is a winner. (So Downton Abbey and Modern Family are the only two shows I watch on TV, apparently.)
ReplyDeletetwebsterarmstrong--we should be best friends. Those are the only shows I follow, too. Well, those and Sister Wives. I do have a dark side.
ReplyDeleteSeason three takes a bit of time to warm up, but whoa!, there are some awesome moments when it settles in.
