The obesity paradox

Rethink your New Year's resolutions.  Forget about losing that extra 10 or 15 pounds because being overweight is good for you.  Who knew?

In a newly published study, people who were underweight and those who were extremely obese died the earliest. Those who carry a little, but not too much extra weight tend to survive longer than people who don't.  Yippee Skippy!

In 2005 and again last month, investigators reported that overweight heart patients live longer than lean ones.

Keep your BMI (body mass index) at 25 to 29.9 and you have a survival advantage over the underweight and obese.

Of course an extra 10 pounds leads to another extra 10 pounds  and so on, until we're morbidly obese.

So go ahead an eat an ice cream cone, but think twice about the hot fudge sundae.
