Hostess Cup Cakes

Before Ann arrived this morning, I realized I was out of Dr. Pepper, which is Ann's drink of choice.
So I scissor-stepped up the block to the ABC Market (the whole reason for living in a city) and bought a few cans.  Then I saw some Hostess Cup Cakes.  I don't think I've had one since I was a kid and I LOVED them. So I bought two Hostess Cup Cakes.

But Ann came with hot cross buns from Mrs. Backers. These tasty buns are only available the month before Easter and are so delicious that they have their own nursery rhyme. We snarfed those right down.

This afternoon, I opened the Hostess Cream Filled Cupcake and ate it.  It was awful.  It was not food. I think it was made with processed rubber sprayed with aspartame. I read the nutritional contents.  There was no recognizable food product in it. And only 110 calories. I ate the whole thing. Very nasty.

The ABC Market is not more than 50 yards from my front door. It has one window with bars on it as if we lived in a first tier city.

Sarah, who grew up in the avenues, said it was a drug house. This cannot possibly be true anymore. It is owned by a sixtyish Japanese couple, who are so cordial and keep the place very clean. (I'm making some assumptions about druggies here).

I would look up what the proper name for druggies is in the Urban Dictionary, but I felt ambushed the last time I looked there.  Honestly, some of you people are living deviant life styles I hadn't even dreamed of.

  1. We ought to put a GoPro camera on you, Louise, and have you narrate your life. It would be charming and hilarious.

  4. Don't try the Twinkies, either! They have the same artificial taste. They were good when I was a kid, in the 60s. Someone told me that it's because they took out the trans fats. So they never were healthy but at least they tasted good!

  5. I love Hostess cupcakes. I still eat them. I don't care what they are made of.

  6. My mother used to freeze Hostess Ding Dongs for us kids in the summer. Bliss.
