Writing and drawing with the left hand (or the right hand if you're lefthanded) can encourage growth of new neurons in the brain. I read it in a book. It's as good as eating blueberries and dark chocolate, although I haven't heard Dr. Oz celebrating it.
You should also brush your teeth with the weaker hand. I do it, but then I do a follow-up with the other hand. There's a huge list of habits--longer than the ten commandments-- one should gain to stave off dementia. Some days, I stay in bed and read a good book.
I just finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon (PulitzerPrize 2002). Such a vigorously imaginative novel. The best kind of read.
Per your recommendation I am reading Kavalier and Clay.
