quintessential Mr. Darcy. I think Jane Austen would agree with me. The scene that made me swoon and sigh in SPEECH is the one where Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Bennett),
are introduced to each other in Lionel Logue's house (she plays Logue's wife). I let out a tiny hormonal squeal and said to Tom, "Look, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett together again."
Surely casting her was an ironic act. And why hasn't anyone written about this yet? I can't be the only one who noticed.
I didn't notice, but I read about it online (I love Wikipedia). I didn't recognize her at all. Did you know they were an off screen couple for awhile?
ReplyDeleteLouise- I just caught up on your blog. I enjoyed all of your posts. I want to thank you for checking up on my blog. Your comments give me motivation to keep writing or posting rather.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. That man is simply gorgeous. Enough said.
ReplyDeleteOh-ma-goodness, when he walked out to accept his Oscar, I was bouncing around on the couch - total Beatle-mania style. I have rewound and rewound my favorite scenes of P&P. I love when he secretly watches her play with the dog in the yard.
ReplyDeleteConfession: After reading P&P for the umpteenth time while alone in a cabin, I took a walk in the woods pretending I were Elizabeth. I fully expected to bump into Mr. Darcy. I was 32. With three kids.
I completely heart him!
ReplyDeleteI had a happy heart when the two were on screen together again too. I am a fan of your writing and just discovered your blog. Hope you don't mind.
