Rage, rage rage against the unfairness of it all! I just want to complain and whine for a bit. First of all, the boot (the cast) came off a few days ago and my foot feels like a pretzel, or a bag of rocks. This is because there is a lot of nerve damage so when I do feel something, it feels like a foreign object--pretzel or rock.
I can walk, sort of. My gait is ungainly. I wore cute little patent leather flats to church yesterday, but then the top of my foot looked all swollen and unbecoming a lady.
This morning I picked out my orthopedic shoes from the back of the closet and they are more comfortable and singularly ugly. I hate ugly shoes.
Back pain. Huge lower back pain came on this weekend and I was not a happy camper. I signed up for two months of one leggedness. I signed up for patience and long suffering for those two months. I signed up for being nice while I was down and out and have managed to be nice for most of the summer.
I did not sign up for FREAKIN LOWER BACK PAIN. I curse the universe, the sun, the moon the sky, the stars. I curse songs about them. I curse rainbows and bunnies and especially kittens. GRRRRRRR.
This morning, I dressed up, wearing icy hot pads and a back brace and walked the three blocks to Utah Woolen Mills, bought two really nice shirts for myself, and walked home again. I am thrilled with my miniscule progress.
All of this is to say getting better always takes about three times longer than you anticipate.
I find that it is always, always helpful to buy oneself new clothes to make oneself feel better. It's like one of the laws of physics.
ReplyDeleteShoes are even better.
Wait. A new purse. Always a new purse.
Sorry about your back. Back pain is the worst cause it is involved in EVERYTHING you do.
I've heard that walking is good for back pain.
Oh, Louise. I'm sorry. Especially about the ugly shoe part because THAT one is hard for someone who always looks as great as you do.
ReplyDeleteCall me. I'll bring you a Diet Coke. Or a real one, if you prefer.
xox
Would you like a Letherman? I understand they can take care of nerve damage, limbs and maybe even back pain.
ReplyDeleteThat STINKS BIG TIME! Pretzels and rocks too? That's AWFUL!
ReplyDeleteAnd, is that picture something you drew?
May the funniest woman in the world get feeling awesome Tonight!
Boo is right! Curse, curse away, Louisa.
ReplyDeleteWhen we have miles and miles to go before we sleep, it would be so helpful if the body just went with it. Keep raging Louise.

ReplyDeleteI'm sending good karma your way!
ReplyDeletePoor you, Louise. Maybe it would make you feel better if you painted rainbows and kitties on your orthopedic shoes.
