I am positive that if I sit down to watch a BYU game with serious interest that they will lose. I have no empirical studies as evidence, but the anecdotal evidence is enough. For example, today, Tom and I sat down on the sofa to watch BYU play OLE MISS down in good old Faulkner country: Oxford, Mississippi. We had to endure the obviously biased announcers, "They don't do THAT in the S.E.C."
Shut up, already.
I prefer biased Provo announcers. Anyway, the Cougars were making all the yardage and controlling the football game, but then things turned, and OLE MISS scored with a field goal and a touch down.
They know I'm watching. I shouldn't be watching.
When the score was OLE MISS 13, BYU 7, we had to leave for a family picnic. The picnic absorbed our attention. Lots of nieces and nephews with growing kidlings. The surprise of the afternoon was when Jonathan and Julie walked in. They had driven down from Boise. Lovely, wonderful surprise.
We didn't think about BYU again until we got in our car and the after game show was still going. Promptly, we heard the final game score: BYU 14, OLE MISS 13.
BYU won, because I stopped watching the game. It happens ALL THE TIME. I have freaking super powers.
I'm sad we missed it all!
ReplyDeleteThank you for turning the game off. I'll need you to remain signed off for the season. Tell Jon and and Julie Hello!
ReplyDeleteWhen things look scary I went to myself DAMN! LOUISE MUST BE WATCHING THE GAME!
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing the right thing and turning off the TV.
Also, I hate the SEC. It's true I do.
I meant "looked." Why don't I ever proof my comments until after they're posted?
ReplyDeletedude! i think i have the same super power. we should probably combine our forces and start gambling on games. we'd make millions.
