3:30 in the morning

I am wide awake and it's 3:30 in the morning.  Here's a discovery I've made over the last few sleepless nights:  the Walker Center neon weather beacon, which was blinking red tonight, and which I can see from my bed--that light turns off at about three in the morning.

An existential loneliness comes over me when that light is off.  Why do they turn it off?  It's so bright when it's on and so conspicuously off when I alone am awake.  Is there anyone else in this city that misses that light when it goes off?

And who would I write to say that I wish they would leave it on until daylight hits, because I'm sure I'm not the only one who considers it my "night light."

There should be some kind of community chat room for people who can't sleep.  Do chat rooms still exist or has tweeting and tumbling taken their place.

I can't keep up.

  1. I'm sorry you're awake at night. You can tweet. People tweet around the clock. Also, I loved Tom's talk. It was lovely.
