What are you watching this summer?

I am besotted with Masterpiece Mystery this summer.  I loved the Lewis series which followed the Inspector Morse series (my favorite of all time) and now they're running Endeavor, who is the young Morse.  These are layered stories worked out like a puzzle.  Leading characters are comfortably rounded with the odd quirks and tics.  I'm glad they're bringing back the elastic Michael Kitchen as Detective Foyle from Foyle's War.  The new series takes place after the war.  The 50's are now period drama, which is alarming to someone who was actually around in the 50's.

Nothing like a little murder to spice up summer.

What are you watching this summer?

  2. I am waiting for Mad Men season 6 to be on Netflix.
I am also waiting for The Walking Dead to start up this fall.

I am also wondering if I should be watching either of them.

  3. I watched all of Luther, Wallander and now enjoying Monarch of the Glen. If you haven't seen the BBC's The Hour, give it a go.

  4. We just picked up Broadhurst, another murder detective show from Britain, hooked enough to watch 3 episodes in a row and decided at 1 am that we should go to bed, my husband and I are watching that one together.
Watching The White Queen, The Walking Dead, Under the Dome.
Going to have to check out Masterpiece Mystery - is it similar to the old Masterpiece Theater shows, loved those.
Thanks Bonnie and Louise - going to check out all your recommendations. Do I need to go back and watch Foyle's War or Inspector Morse first?
Have to say - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE BBC and Britain ITV.

  5. I am watching my DVR'd Mad Men season 6 except it's taking forever because I start watching it before I go to bed and fall asleep 10 minutes into it. If I need serious mindless t.v., I put on The Real Housewives of Wherever. Pure awful goodness.

  6. I'm in the middle of an older British series called Berkeley Square. (And I loved Monarch of the Glen.) In August I think I will re-run the series A Year in Provence.

  7. You know what really makes me crazy. All my kids are gone right now. I have not got a clue how to turn on our TV, especially when I need to go to netflix or whatever. They should give courses for people like me. Or make it a law that no kids can adjust the settings on their parents television and then move out of the house!!

Oh well, at least I can still turn the pages of a book!

  8. My husband and I are in the middle of Foyle's war. It's our way of coping with our newly empty nest. Looking forward to Endeavor!
