When the electricity goes out

Being an overly anxious person, I worry about the big earthquake.  I worry about not being immediately killed by a mountain falling on me or being slurped up by the earth.

I worry about living without electricity.

Once in awhile, this anxiety leads me to buy some useful product just in case.  Clothes dryer  doesn't work anymore?  Ha!  I have a clothesline and clothes pins.

Dishwasher doesn't work?  Ha.  I have dish soap!

No laptop?  Ha.  I have books.

Here's a list of things that might be really useful after the big quake:

1.  A burro
2. A milk cow
3. chickens
4. A Spring bar tent.
5. A good sleeping bag(s)
6. A compass
7. An autoharp or an accordian
8. A 500 lb. stash of chocolate chips
9. An axe
10. A wheelbarrow
11. A shovel.  Latrine anyone?
12.  And, of course, lip gloss.

  1. Finally, an emergency preparedness list that includes the Autoharp and 500 lbs of chocolate chips! In case of nuclear disaster or zombie apocalypse, I want to die first, though.

  2. Crap, now I have to worry about not having a burro. I should have grabbed one of those that would hang out on Lake Pleasant Parkway when I had the chance.

  3. You have given this some thought! I cannot imagine what I could use a burro for, but I am with you on all else - especially the chocolate chips. I might replace the burro with 1 lb of zinnia seeds. Who doesn't need some color in drab, post-earthquake life?

  4. But wait: we need a book!! I can read and re-read Moby Dick and Ryme of the Ancient Mariner. Can I lump those two in with the 1 lb of zinnia seeds?

    1. Zinnias are a fine idea. I wish I'd thought of it myself.

  6. I missed this post and the list. I want toilet paper on mine. I've don't the newspaper, catalogue, magazine thing in an outhouse for five years of my early life and don't EVER want to go back to that.
