The old marriage


Despite the unflattering profile of this photo, it is one of my favorites from Rian's wedding. We so obviously like each other, and we're having fun.

Oh yes, we love each other too, but love is such a perpetual responsibility through sinus infections, and depression, chaotic finances and arguments over whose memory is more reliable. Love is loyalty and commitment. Love is the long haul.

Like is "I still want to kiss you on the lips and dance with you".  Like is "I'd date you all over again." Like is getting the joke. Like is hanging out and dreaming impossible dreams.  Like is "haven't we met before?""

    I don't know how I landed on this post some two months after it was written, but I must say this: you and Tom's marriage, and the clear and palpable affection you have for one another is something I've always respected, adored and aspired to find in my own life. So thank you.
