The hyacinths we bought at Cactus and Tropicals a few days ago emerged into full bloom today. Guerlain can't make a scent better than a hyacinth in February.
Cactus and Tropicals is one of those places we visit when we need an emotional/imaginative lift. Elephant-eared trees, spidery plants, and water features gurgling out of fishes' mouths. Baubles, dishes, tapestry and books on display in a tiny hut at its center and then pots full of tulips, cyclamen and poppies so colorful it makes me want to weep.
And you can buy all of it!
Or you can buy a pot of hyacinths and wait for them to open in your living room.
I investigate each path through the store while Tom finds a comfortable bench and considers the lilies.
It's February and it's getting lighter.
