Queen Juliana's daughters

My only dream in my early youth was to be one of Queen Juliana's daughters (the Netherlands).
I saw a photo of them in the newspaper and wanted to have a bow in my hair. I didn't know you didn't have to be a princess to wear a bow. (Maybe after World War II, you did need to be a princess for those small luxuries). I am a year older than the middle Princess Marguerite. The oldest daughter, Beatrix, is now queen.

On the queen's birthday, April 30, we wore orange sashes and hats. I learned to tie a bow with an orange sash around my waist. It was such a satisfying accomplishment.

God bless the House of Orange.

  1. Those kind of photographic images are powerful when you're little. I can remember looking at pictures of our American princess, Caroline Kennedy, and thinking we'd probably be friends if we lived next door to each other.
